In a proactive move to enhance emergency response capabilities, the KL International Airport’s Airport Fire and Rescue Service (KLIA AFRS) has integrated a specialized solution for managing electric vehicle, or EV, fires. As part of their new EV car fire suppression system, the KLIA AFRS utilized 30 flood guard panels. These panels are crucial, not for flood defense in this context, but to quickly form a temporary containment area or pool.

This innovative approach allows fire crews to safely and effectively submerge a burning EV battery in water, a widely recognized best practice for dealing with the intense, sustained heat and thermal runaway common in lithium-ion battery fires. The use of these readily deployable flood guard panels ensures the fire can be quickly isolated, cooled, and contained, protecting airport infrastructure and personnel.

Comparative difference between EV and ICE rescue, new EV fire rescue protocol is still being refined from day to day

The FloodGuard Curve Internal Panel – 50 Series delivers targeted 52cm protection for complex architectural angles with its innovative inward-curving design (82H x 98D cm). Engineered for tight spaces and concave surfaces, this ultra-lightweight 3.1kg panel offers dual-width functionality (28W/62W cm), adapting seamlessly to both standard and expanded flood barrier configurations. The reinforced rib structure maintains rigidity while the hydrodynamic curve helps manage water pressure distribution, preventing pooling at vulnerable interior corners.
